Asparagus Sandwiches

Several months ago I went to a baby shower and the hostess had made these delicious little treats.  As I inspected them and took a closer look I thought that these looked like something I could make.  What I loved about these sandwiches is that I had never seen anything like them though they seemed like such a traditional appetizer.  The best part is that while they are cooking they make the entire kitchen smell absolutely to die for!!!

Asparagus Sandwiches
1 can asparagus
Grated Parmesan
1 stick butter, melted

Drain the asparagus on a paper towel and pat dry.  Melt the butter....my mother taught me a a trick to keeping the butter from splatting all over the microwave (top it with the butter wrapper).  Cut the crust off the bread and brush each piece with the melted butter.  Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on each piece of bread.  Lay asparagus on the bread and roll up so that two of the corners touch.  Pinch the corners together and lay the sandwiches seam side own on a baking sheet making sure that each sandwich does not touch the one next to it.  

Brush each rolled sandwich with more of the melted butter (yep, I said it...more butter) and sprinkle with paprika.   Broil on low (or if you are brazen enough go ahead and try it on high but don't say I didn't warn you) until toasted.  Serve warm.
